Khadir is botanically known as Acacia catechu and commonly known as Cutch tree. In India, this herb is popularly known as Khadira and Khair. Khadir : Morphological Details
Khadir or Acacia catechu is often found to shed its leaves during the spring season and the process continues till the arrival of early summers. The old and weak leaves are shed during the month of January and February and new leaves arrives during the month of April and May. This herb shows its real beauty during the month of June and July, when it paints the environment and contributes to beautiful landscapes. Leave of this herb are compound, wherein rachis branches from the mod-rib with four to five round prickles. The rachis is about 10-20 cm in length, each containing 20-60 pinnae about 3-4 cm n length. The flowering season for this herb is from June to October. Flowers are pale yellow to cream colored. Fruit are pod shaped, brown colored, about 5-7 cm in length and 1-1.5 cm in width. The most commonly used part of this herb includes bark and heartwood (kath).
