Located below diaphragm in the upper right quadrant of abdomen, Liver is largest internal gland in human body. Liver is dark red in color and weighs about 1.5kg (3-4lb). Liver has two source of blood supply- the hepatic artery and portal vein. Liver besides being the largest internal organ in vertebrates is responsible for significant body functions. Levers helps in metabolism and other functions such as secretion biles, red blood cells, stores and filters, plasma protein synthesis and detoxification.
Functioning of liver
Blood Supply- Liver holds important place when it comes to blood supply. At any point of time liver is supposed to carry 10% of total blood and every minute blood passes at the rate of approximately 1.4 liters. Unlike other organs, liver has two sources of blood- portal vein which carries blood from spleen and gut to the liver before it is returned to the right side of heart and it is termed as portal circulation. Second source is hepatic arteries which brings oxygenated blood directly to the liver from heart.
Bile Secretion- Bile is alkaline fluid and is secreted by liver in bile canaliculi which is later merged with bile ducts culminating the hepatic duct. Common bile duct is formed by gall bladder duct and hepatic duct and is later discharged at duodenum
Regeneration and toxins- One of the most important function of liver is detoxifying the toxins effects which accumulates due to excessive intake of drugs and alcohol, secretion of Bilirubin, cholesterol and other enzymes. Special Phagocytes cells in Liver act as immune fighters and helps in removing bacteria from blood. Hence it is highly responsible for controlling anemia. Moreover, Liver is one of the few organs capable of regenerating lost tissues.
Potential Liver Disorders (Diseases)
Hepatitis
Caused by virus, hepatitis is inflammation of liver. Besides being infected due to virus, Hepatitis can also occur due to certain poisons, drugs or hereditary causes. Eventually hepatitis can cause Cirrhosis and hence occurrence of progressive scarring takes place. Once the condition of hepatitis occurs it is almost irreversible and extremity of disease is so high that patient suffering from it dies of liver failure or disorder in blood supply that takes place through liver. Jaundice is common symptom of Hepatitis and is caused by Bilirubin malfunction. Though there is various type of hepatitis but Hepatitis A, B and C are most common among all.
Cirrhosis
Cirrhosis is a chronic lever disease that is marked by scarring and death of hepatocytes (liver cells). Once damaged by Cirrhosis the cells and tissues in the lever are difficult to repair and when regenerated sustains a permanent scars and strands that creates problem in blood circulation process through lever. Cirrhosis is caused mainly due to hepatitis. The other reasons can be disorders in blood circulation and Bilirubin secretion and as an effect of toxins. Cirrhosis can be identified with symptoms like fever, Vomiting, Restlessness, Sleeping disorders, Loss of appetite, unusual weight gain/loss, tender muscles and muscle pain etc
The other disease associated with liver are- cancer,Haemochromatosis, Wilson's disease and Gilbert's syndrome.
Causes of liver malfunctioning
Infections mainly caused by virus are most cogent cause to give rise to Hepatitis in liver. Other infection in liver can be caused by certain bacteria or fungi.
Toxin in form of excessive intake of Alcohol is much rampant reason in America to cause Liver disorder. Toxin effect can also generate from some chemicals or poisons and uses of excess drugs.
Vascular problems- Any congestion in the process of heart pumping blood to lever and back flow of blood through lever may result in swelling and inflammation of lever. Gradually the lever gets damage
Symptoms of liver disease
Abdominal swelling and pain due to enlarge liver, bad breath, skin rashes, excessive sweating, dark circles under eyes are most apparent causes of to identify liver oriented problems.
Jaundice rises due to Bilirubin secretion malfunctioning in lever and is identified by yellowing of skin and eyes
Dark urine, bleeding, itching, chills, pain from biliary tract to pancreas are other symptoms of Liver associated problems.
Reaction to medications, drugs etc due to non-functioning biochemical action of liver
Diseases like Diarrhea, Blood clotting problem, Hemorrhoids
Low sex drive and impotence

Livup capsules have a direct lipoprotective effect providing protection to hepatocytes exposed to carbon tetrachloride and galactosamine and a regular intake of these supplements on advice of doctor is significantly useful in treatment of various Liver disorders. Livup capsules are beneficial for chronic and occasional alcoholics in order to take care of liver cirrhosis. It is also considered as effective general health stimulant. It is comprised of herbs like- Andrographis paniculata (Kalmegh), Eclipta Alba (Bhringraj), Phyllanthus niruri (Bhui amla), Emblica officinalis (Amla), Solanum nigrum (Makoy) and Boehavia diffusa (Punarnava) |
