Withania somnifera or Ashwagandha has been used since centuries to heal. In Africa, it is used as a home remedy to treat inflammatory conditions and also fevers.

All parts of the herb are used for different purposes. Usually, the powders of roots and leaves are prepared to provide relief. The extracts of the root is also prepared. Raw fresh leaves are chewed with warm water to burn fat and promote digestive health.

The herb is also called by the name of Indian ginseng and winter cherry.

Market is flooded with preparations of Ashwangdha. It can be consumed daily and has no reported side effects. It is used to treat panic disorders, Depression and all forms of anxiety. It relaxes the nerves and calms the senses. It can be used as body building aid.

As a daily tonic, it helps in treating fatigue and rejuvenates the entire body. The weakness can be uplifted with regular usage of this herb. It acts as an aphrodisiac as well. It is best possible in liquid dosage form.

Ashwagandha works best when used properly. For most possible benefits, use with water or fresh fruit juice you may also take the pills with milk. Those looking forward to increase weight must take it with warm milk. This mixture provides strength to the body. It also works as an amazing antioxidant and decreases the rate of ageing.

The amazing chemical constitution of Ashwagandha comprises of over 13 alkaloids which includes tropine and Somniferin. The group is chemically a powerful hypnotic. Much caution must be taken during consumption of Ashwagandha. Although the herb has no side effects but it interacts with other medications.

Since it has hypnotic activity it must not be used with narcotic medications. It must also be strictly avoided with thyroid medication and medicines to treat anxiety. Above all, ashwagandha is a rich source of iron and helps in production of RBCs.
