Women and constipation

Constipations are not a silly topic. Those who experience it know well what I am talking about. Serious constipation may lead to Hemorrhoids and diverticula’s. Both of these conditions may result in bleeding or inflammation.

Many women experience constipation at various stages of their lives. The condition is a special topic in Pediatrics as well as in Geriatrics. Some of the women face slight discomfort which is taken as “normal”. The condition of constipation can be diagnosed if

-    You have stools less often than before.
-    You are having hard stools which are difficult to pass.
-    You experience bloated, abdominal discomfort with cramps.
-    You feel strain in trying to pass out the stools

It is important to understand the condition could arise due to taking of some medications. Usually, antidepressants as well as narcotic drugs cause constipation. You should observe if you have seen some changes in your diet. Try to observe your body if you have felt extra thirsty or if you have observed a
form of physical changes like breast tenderness or hair loss.

There are certain things that you can start immediately when you experience constipation. These will definitely help you relieve you from the condition. In case of serious condition you must consult a physician.

Drink more water than what you drink regularly. Usually drinking extra water simply does magic. It acts as a lubricant to push the stools easily.

You must try to include more dietary fibers in your meals. In case you are thinking about taking fiber supplements then take in water soluble. Those taken without water often lead to harder stools. Preferably, include more natural fibers. Include seasonal salads in your diet. Eat fiber rich fruits like bananas, mangoes, pineapple, papaya, etc.

Another quick tip is to get active. Exercise regularly for atleast 30 mins each day. Desk job can actually make it difficult for the stools to pass through the gut.
