This condition can affect men and women alike; so do not feel ashamed of this condition if you are suffering from it. There are many reasons for the occurrence of this condition in men, so let’s see why men get up frequently every night!
Generally, if a man experiences this condition rarely, then it is because he had consumed more quantity of liquids before going to sleep. Because his bladder could no longer occupy the exceed limit, he had to get up at night to urinate. But if a man has to get up frequently during the night on a regular basis, then it is a little serious issue. Mostly this will be a result of the aging process of a man, but there can be more reasons for this condition as well.
When a man starts to age, i.e. during the period of 50-60 years, his prostate gland grows larger. Since this gland is located near the urethra, it exerts pressure more pressure as it starts to grow. This leads to an intense urge of urinating. This condition is known as BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) and can be treated via medicines or surgery.
Another reason could be decrease in the production of ADH or anti-diuretic hormone. ADH is a hormone that is produced by the brain to inform kidneys to take a pause from their functioning. Brain produces ADH during night and hence many people can sleep up to 8 hours without feeling to urinate. But as men age, the secretion of ADH reduces and this leads to frequent urination at night.
Other causes include urinary tract infections, high blood pressure, nervousness and anxiety or fear of particular event or thing. Undiagnosed diabetes and kidney stones can also be some factors that make men wake up at night frequently, only to urinate.
