White Discharge In Females
During the reproductive years in the life cycle of a woman, there is a continuous flow of some vaginal discharge, which is usually very less in amount say a teaspoon everyday.
Leucorrhoea is the term given to this vaginal discharge when it becomes sticky, thick and gives bad odour. The colour of the discharge can be white, yellow or green.
Causes of Leucorrhoea
Leucorrhoea indicates the presence of some bacterial or yeast infection or some sexually transmitted disease. It can also take place due to certain hormonal changes in the body. Pregnancy can also be the reason for leucorrhoea as during pregnancy, there is increased blood flow to the vagina due to the presence of excess of oestrogen hormone.
Leucorrhoea usually occurs in females suffering from diabetes. Other causes can be taking contraceptive pills for a long period, vitamin B complex deficiency, intestinal worms or use of some antibiotics.
Other complaints
Along with the presence of vaginal discharge the patient may also have pain, itching, redness or burning sensation in the vagina or nearby parts.
Remedies
Home remedy to prevent the bad odour can be using a tampon made of plain yoghurt. Tea tree oil is a very good anti-fungal herb. You can use a tampon dipped in it.
Take a healthy diet and avoid starchy foods, sugar intake, dairy foods and fatty acids.
Wash the area properly and keep it clean and dry. Do not indulge in sexual activity during this time. Wear cotton panties as it allows the air to pass through and do not use any perfume or deodorant on the genital area. Also, never use any creams on the vagina as they help the bacteria to breed.
During excessive vaginal discharge itching is a normal complaint. Never scratch harshly over the area and do not wear tight fitting clothes for long.
If you are using some medication for the treatment, follow them on a regular basis and do not even stop the same during the menstrual cycle even. After the bath or bowel movement always clean the area from front to back, if done in the opposite way, infection can occur.
After trying all the home remedies if no results are found then visit a doctor for the proper diagnosis and treatment regime.
