What Is Self Hypnosis?

July 1, 2009

The world that we live in today has become extremely competitive. Everyone is competing against each other and has to remain on their toes all the time. This lifestyle has led to the occurrence of many health disorders like anxiety, depression, hypertension, etc. People are so busy with their work that they hardly get any time for relaxation.

There are various ways of relaxing your body such as yoga, meditation, etc. These methods help an individual to talk to his inner self and attain a peace of mind. But people, who are extremely busy and cannot devote time for yoga or meditation, should adopt the method of self hypnosis.

Self hypnosis is a process of communicating with your subconscious (sometimes unconscious) mind. This method helps in relieving stress, anxiety and tension. In self hypnosis, an individual instructs his subconscious mind to believe in certain things which have not happened yet. This is done to increase the self confidence and determination in an individual.

For example, a person going for an exam may get nervous due to lack of confidence or exam fear. With self hypnosis, that person can be trained to tackle exam fear and attend the exam with full confidence. This will not only help that individual to appear for the exam, but chances are that he will do well in his exams.

Let us see how this process works. The human brain is broadly classified into three main parts – the outermost part or the conscious mind, the middle part or the subconscious mind and the innermost part or the unconscious mind.

When we are carrying our daily tasks, our mind is in the conscious state and hence our logical and reasoning powers are high. But this state is not very receptive. Instead, the subconscious brain is most receptive to the suggestions and feedback given to it. And therefore, in self hypnosis, a person’s sub conscious mind is trained to believe in affirmations.

Self hypnosis is one of the widely used methods for personal development, motivation and creativity. It is incarnation of belief in an individual who lacks it and often doubts his skills. Though this method involves lot of practice, but with dedication and determination, any individual can practice it without hurting himself.
