What Causes CTS?

Wrist is the slimmest part of the body and slim wrist is considered as a sign of beauty. Wrist is surrounded by a band of fibers, which support the joints. The tight space between these fibers and wrist bone is known as carpal tunnel.

The nerves that feel the sensation on the hand are placed on this carpal tunnel. Any change in the tissues or joints can cause the nerve irritation. This irritation causes tingling and numbness in the fingers and thumb. This particular syndrome is known as carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS).

Causes

Doing a particular hand motion again and again causes this syndrome. This includes people who repeat a particular hand movement again and again like people working on computers, carpenters, musicians and meat packers.

Also, some medical conditions like pregnancy, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, arthritis and obesity can cause carpel tunnel syndrome. Sometimes an injury caused to the wrist may affect the median nerve which can also cause this syndrome. Presence of tumor in the wrist can also be the cause for the same.

Sometimes when a person is driving and at the same time he talks on mobile then the position in which he holds the mobile is wrong and it causes carpal tunnel syndrome. It is more common in women than men.

In some cases it has been noticed that deficiency of vitamin B6 can cause carpal tunnel syndrome. Also higher levels of vitamin C in respect to vitamin B6 put the patient from suffering the disease at great frequencies. Kidney failure builds water retention in the carpal tunnel which causes pain.

Treatment

Acupressure and acupuncture can give a great relief from this problem. As both the treatments includes nerves and this syndrome is caused by pressure on the nerve itself. Continuous yoga postures reduce the frequency of syndrome.

One need to see the doctor when you have numbness, tingling and pain in fingers and hands that does not go away in a week or occurs frequently. Also if there is no sensation in the fingers or hand, you can not perform your work due to pain and also if your thumb is losing the strength.
