What Causes Baldness In Men?
Baldness is a state in which a person experiences very less growth of hair in areas which are known for high hair growth, especially head. The condition of baldness may occur in both men and women – depending upon their age, hereditary and health. But baldness in men is more common than in women. And the primary reason for baldness in men is “Male Pattern Baldness.â€
Male pattern baldness is a condition which affects men who are in the ages of 20 – 45 years. In this condition, first the hair starts becoming thin in the frontal part of the head. Then the hair on the top of head also starts becoming thin and slowly a bald patch begins to develop in the middle of the scalp.
Gradually, the bald patch enlarges and a man loses his hair from the front part of the scalp as well. Within some time, only a rim of hair is left around the back and sides of the scalp. In some men, this condition of the scalp may exist for a long time or a person may have a completely bald scalp.
There are a few causes for male pattern baldness, which researchers have figured out. The most common cause is the male hormone – testosterone. Men with normal levels of testosterone are usually more prone to go bald.
There are genetic factors involved, i.e. if men in a family have a tendency to go bald, then all the male offspring will go bald over a period of time. The time of occurrence and the severity of baldness may vary from person to person. Other environmental factors like constant exposure to dust & pollution, cigarette smoke and unhealthy lifestyle can also cause male pattern baldness.
Usage of cheap hair care products like hair oil and hair gel can also damage the hair follicles, thereby reducing the growth of new hair and thus causing baldness. An injury to a particular region of the scalp may also retard hair growth in that region and cause partial baldness.
