What Are Veneers?

Veneers are used by dentists to beautify and improve appearance of front teeth. Veneers are manufactured in dental factories for the dentists to be used by bonding them to teeth of the patient. Veneers made of acrylic and porcelain is most common. These are different from braces.
Who May Choose a Veneer?
A veneer can be chosen instead of lengthy procedure of braces. Veneers are a good choice in case of gap in front teeth, broken teeth or chipped tooth. Veneer helps in overcoming these imperfections. There is no need for placing crowns on the teeth. Adults use them commonly and these do not require lengthy time durations to see results.
Process of Preparation
Detailing of the process depend on method chosen by your dentist to prepare the tooth. It also depends on the brand of material used. The basic process remains the same.
If you have already have had a root canal then you may not be given a local anesthetic. Also, if your tooth requires less preparation you will not need ananesthetic.
To start with, the dentist will use a high speed hand and note configuration of the tooth (front tooth) to be prepared. Impression is taken inside the mouth. The impression material appears as a thick paste and is filled into the tray to be placed into the teeth which has been prepared.
It may take 3 to 5 minutes for the material to set inside the mouth. Using the same precise impression machine, impression is taken with your teeth biting together. Your dentist may ask you to bit down to the impression material till it settles. As per the brand chosen, it will take another 2 or 3 minutes.
Once the dentist is satisfied with the final impressions, these are sent to dental laboratories for veneer preparation.
Advantage of Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers, by far, are the most trusted veneers. They have two major advantages. Porcelain veneers resembles natural teeth by being white and translucent. The dental bonding may be done using dental cement or yellow colored dentin but the teeth look natural.
Since porcelain is a ceramic, they are naturally stain-resistant. It is an additionally advantage for those who can not give up red wine and foods cooked with turmeric powder.
