Some of the seeds in nature are rich sources of special vitamins and minerals. They are used liberally in traditional medicines. Here are some of special seeds that are highly nutritious.

Hemp Seeds

About 80 per cent of the total oil volume in hemp seeds consists of essential fatty acids. This makes it the richest plant source of any essential fatty acids. This constitutes about 55 per cent of linoleic acid (LA) and 25 per cent of linoleic acid (LNA). Both of these fatty acids are powerful antioxidants. Health benefits of LNA and LA include boosting physical strength and improving functioning of central nervous system.

LA and LNA are responsible for oxygen exchange within the cells of the body. Due to this role they act as antioxidants. Many bacteria and viruses can not survive in presence of oxygen. Thus, LA and LNA also have a protective role.

Sesame Seeds

Sesame seeds are store house of several nutrients. They provide vitamin C, pantothenic acid, vitamin B 6, folic acid, niacin and riboflavin. In minerals it offers iron, calcium, magnesium, selenium, potassium, sodium, zinc, potassium, copper and manganese. Sesame seeds are mainly used as a condiment to flavor recipes. Additionally, one forth of sesame seeds is made up of proteins.

Pumpkin Seeds

They taste crunchy and are used in variety of ways. Used as dessert and salad toppings, the seeds of pumpkin offer several health benefits. Pumpkin seeds offer several amino acids. These include lysine, isoleucine, tyrosine, cystine, threonine and phenylalanine. Minerals present in pumpkin seeds include phosphorus, magnesium, iron, calcium, copper, potassium, zinc, copper and selenium.

Flax Seeds

Flax seeds are popular with gym goers. Rich antioxidants like omega 3 fatty acids and several phytochemicals make flax seeds as one of the most popularly used ingredients in gym supplementations. Additionally, the seeds offer good amounts of fiber.

Studies show that flax seeds are helpful in menopausal symptoms, in prevention of breast cancer and in treatment of  type 2 diabetes. The  omega 3 fatty acids acts as anti-inflammatory ingredient that helps in conditions of arthritis, asthma and several types of cardiovascular diseases including arthrosclerosis.
