Vision Changes in Diabetes
Diabetes is one of the very common medical problems. People with diabetes suffer from eye diseases. These could be cataract, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.
Earlier there was no good control over the diabetes but now new invention is making it better for the sufferers. People who keep good control over diabetes during their life may experience loss of vision due to effects of high blood sugar level on the retina of the eye (which makes the vision possible).
Cause
With the invention of insulin the cause of diabetic retinopathy is still unknown. There is no answer why? But this is the very common problem which is causing blindness now days.
Mechanism
Due to weakness, the blood vessels and the capillaries of the retina become thin. Due to this an out pouch is developed. This is known as hemorrhage which results in the outflow of blood and the serum. Due to this the capillaries are not able to provide oxygen to the retina as a result of which the new vessels formed are also thin. As blood contains toxic substances also, these are then secreted out over the retina. This produces hemorrhage of the eye. Now it depends upon the severity of the disease that either there is total vision loss or the eyesight is reduced to a great extent.
Check Up
Every diabetic patient either with type I or type II is at higher risk of developing this disease. So it is very important for the diabetic person to get the eye check up get done repeatedly. If the problem is found at an early stage, you can get prevented from total vision loss. If you have diabetes and you are pregnant, you should go for an eye check up as you are highly prone to this problem.
Early Symptoms
As such there are no early symptoms for this. But if you have diabetes, go for an eye check up at least once a year. The very first symptom occurs when the white fluid starts leaking from the retina which causes blurred vision.
