Urinary System Problems And Treatment

Urinary system is most vulnerable to infection, irritation and inflammation. Let us try to understand what are the common problems of urinary system are.

Cystitis

Cystitis is the infection of the bladder and the symptoms may appear even if the urine analysis has a negative test for the infection. Key symptoms include burning sensation during micturation, frequent urge to urinate and presence of little blood in the urine.

It is important to take certain precaution if one is vulnerable to the condition. Use of contraceptives like spermicide, diaphragm and condoms may irritate the lining of the urethra.

They tend to increase pressure on the bladder and hence frequent urge to urinate. These need to be avoided.

During periods women must maintain proper hygiene since the system may become infected easily. The muscles of the bladders are relaxed during pregnancy and menopause phase. Special care should be taken to avoid infection.

Avoid swimming since the chlorinated water irritates the membrane. Use of strong soaps and bubble bath should be avoided. The imbalance of the acidic and alkaline pH of the body can be restored by drinking cranberry juice every day. Herbal teas help in diluting the burning sensation of the urine.

Mix marigold, ribwort and yarrow in equal quantities and brew in water to prepare tea. Drink 1 to 2 cups every day.

Infusions of yarrow, thyme and marshmallow are also helpful in reducing irritation. Avoid consumption of spicy food, alcohol, coffee and sugar.

Water Retention

It is common with women suffering from PMS and diabetes patients. It is accumulation of water beneath the skin, suggesting an improper functioning of the kidney.

Nettle, dandelion and yarrow are helpful in reducing water reduction. Diuretics like cleaves, horsetail and elderflower are useful in reducing water retention.

Pyelonephritis

It is infection of the urethra and bladder which may spread to kidney if left untreated. Symptoms include headache, general malaise and fever. Herbs like liquorice, ribwort, comfrey, and hydrangea reduce inflammation and irritation of the urethra.

Things to Remember

Do not use public toilets if you already have a history of urinary infection. Keep the area clean and do not use sprays and scents on that area. Do not wash the area very frequently with soap. This will disturb the acidic and alkaline balance of the area.
