Treating Urinary Tract Infections

Urinary tract infection like cystitis in women and urethritis in men are common. These are often caused due to bad personal hygiene and use of public washrooms. Itching, frequent urination and redness are first signs of UTIs.

Here are few remedies that are helpful to treat UITs at home.

Herbal Teas

Herbal teas help in elimination of bacteria from the system. This even helps in treatment and prevention of bladder infections.

Uva ursi is a powerful antiseptic herb. Allow 1 tbsp of leaves of uva ursi to be brewed in 250 ml of water for 15 minutes. Strain and drink 3 cups every day.

Another method to consume uva ursi is to put 8 drops of the tincture in small amount of warm water and drink. The herb works well in an alkaline environment. Regulate your diet accordingly.

Take 30 ml of uva ursa extract, 15 ml of Echinacea extract and 15 ml of goldenseal extract and mix them well. Store it in a glass container. Take 1 tbsp of this mixture 3 times in a day. Reduce quantity of goldenseal to half for those who have problem of high pressure. Avoid it completely as part of the remedy if user is pregnant.

Parsley is a powerful diuretic. This tea helps in cleansing of bladder by flushing the bacteria.

Other Alternatives

A mixture of cranberry juice and apple juice is a good way to improve bladder cleansing. Take 120 ml of unsweetened cranberry juice and 60 ml of apple juice. Dilute it with 60 ml of water. Drink 2 glasses of this mixture of every day. It is a great way of preventing bladder related infections.

Drinking tomato and cranberry juice daily serves the same benefit. But if one is consuming uva ursi herb then do not drink cranberry juice since cranberry takes the environment of body acidic.

Sandalwood bath soothes the redness of the area and provides relief to itchiness. One can put 10 drops of sandalwood essential oil in lukewarm water and have a bath. Another way is to apply paste of pure sandalwood powder along with rose water.

Tips

Do not sit on the pot in public washrooms. Keep your buttock raised while urinating. Wash your hands thoroughly and always wear clean under garments.
