Treating Dandruff
Dandruff is a condition where the flakes of skin appear on the scalp. This problem is very common and is mainly caused due to the exposure to extreme temperatures. Other body parts such as chest, ear, face and the areas where skin folds are present can also be affected by dandruff.
The presence of dandruff can be noticed by the presence of white or grey flakes of skin on the affected area especially scalp, the area is felt to be itchy and tight and the flakes may look oily too.
Usually the sufferers do not require visiting a doctor as there are many home remedies to treat dandruff, but in some cases when the scalp becomes red and swollen due to regular itching, one needs to consult the doctor.
The exact cause of dandruff is not known. It can occur due to improper brushing of the hair, keeping the scalp dry by not applying enough oil. Also, some medical problems and some sort of stress might also cause it. If you are not taking enough zinc and vitamins in your diet then also you can be affected by dandruff.
Sometimes the dandruff can be caused by some fungal infection too. In the market, various anti fungal ointments and lotions are available, which can be applied to control the situation.
You can treat the dandruff by yourself. Apply hot oil to the scalp, massage it for a little time and wrap a hot towel around the head for 30 minutes. Wash off with an anti-dandruff shampoo.
Mix equal amount of gooseberry and lemon juice and apply on the affected area. Leave it overnight and then wash in the morning. Applying curd on the scalp can also help.
Take a good diet that includes vitamins and zinc contents like carrots, juicy fruits etc.
But even after treating the dandruff by yourself, if no results are seen then visiting a dermatologist or a skin specialist becomes necessary.
