Treating Cold Sores At Home

June 23, 2009

Cold sore is a severe infection that is caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 (HSV-1). The infection is so severe that the person suffering from cold sores feels very irritated with himself due to the appearance of the sores.

The sores can occur on face or on lips and can entirely make the face lose its glow. Therefore people suffering from cold sores are very self-conscious and try to remain away from people.

Cold sore is a contagious disease and can pass from an already infected person to a healthy person either via touch or oral sex. The HSV-1 virus spreads rapidly in the human body and can cause massive health problems if it is not treated early. So let us look at some natural home remedies that can help in curing the cold sores.

Ice treatment is a simple and easy to implement remedy for curing cold sores. Take some ice cubes in a soft piece of cloth and hold it on the infected area. The coolness will provide a soothing feeling to the skin and prevent the spreading of the virus to other parts. Also, this will reduce the severity of pain, swelling and formation of blisters.

It is very important to keep the affected area clean and dry. Therefore, always make a point to do so, otherwise the environmental dirt and moisture will cause more viruses to breed and increase the infection. You may use a face mask or cover your face with a handkerchief when going out as it will keep your sores clean.

Your diet should also be such that it fights cold sores. Consume yogurt in large quantities. Make sure that your diet contains adequate amount of minerals and vitamins. A healthy diet will make your immune system stronger and thus your body will be in a better position to fight against the HSV-1.

Cold sore is a very sensitive disorder as it can pass on to anyone who remains in the close vicinity of the patient. Therefore extreme care must be taken in treating the patient and immediate medical attention should be sought.
