Treating Chronic Cough
Chronic cough is a cough that does not last for some days rather takes few months or years to go depending upon how fast the cause is detected. Chronic cough is not a disease but it is a symptom for many diseases. There can be several reasons for it.
Causes
Some of the common causes of chronic cough include cigarette smoking (which is considered the most common cause). The next could be asthma in which there is problem in taking breath. Chronic cough is one of the symptoms of asthma. Sinus problems can also lead to chronic cough, as it is difficult to diagnose and only X-ray of the sinus can detect this problem. Any other infection in the respiratory tract or in the lungs can also be the cause for the same.
Chronic cough can also occur in children. Passive smoking is the most common cause of chronic cough in children. Viral infection is also one of the common causes of chronic cough in children.
Treatment
Treatment of chronic cough depends on the cause. If the cough is due to smoking then you need to stop it immediately. You can also ask your doctor for help. He would suggest some gums and nicotine patches available in the market to help you quit smoking. Some medicines of blood pressure and migraine can also cause chronic cough. If you are taking any of these then ask your doctor for the remedy.
Chronic cough is said to be the only symptom for mild asthma. If the cough is not going away, doctor would suggest you some mild dosage of asthma medication and if the cough goes better then it is said you are suffering from mild asthma.
If you have cough with bloody sputum then it is due to infection of tuberculosis. Severe dry cough accompanied with weight loss can be due to lung cancer. So consult the doctor immediately.
When excess of acid is built in the stomach it bounces back in the mouth and causes heartburn and cough. If you have problem of heart burn then try natural remedies for heartburn. They in turn would reduce the cough too.
