Overeating is caused by many factors. Also, overeating can be seen in people of all age groups. Be it children, adults, men or women, each of them has been a victim of overeating at some point of time. Let us see the various causes of overeating.
1. Habitual: Many obese people are habitual over eaters, which mean that eating more than required is their daily habit. And habits once formed are very difficult to break. Overeating becomes a habit for people who love to eat anything. There are many people who are ready to eat anything simply because of the attractive smell or the look of the food.
2. Skipping meals: Skipping meals is another cause of overeating. Irregular eating habits are not healthy and when a person skips a meal, his body tries to compensate for it in the second meal. This causes overeating and if such an activity is performed on a regular basis then it becomes habitual.
3. Insomnia: When people are deprived of sleep, they act like a zombie. They feel irritated, nervous, confused and frustrated. Their state of mind is such that they cannot decide what to do next. This increases their anxiety and to reduce it they tend to eat whatever they can lay their hands on.
4. Fibreless diet: People who consume a diet that is rich in all the nutrients except fiber, then chances are that you will eat more than required. This is so because fiber provides a feeling of fullness and when the diet lacks fiber, our body tries to consume more carbohydrates to fill the gap. This leads to the intake of more calories and causes obesity.
5. Stress: When a person is under severe stress he cannot understand what his body wants. Therefore he starts eating anything and everything that he can get. Often boredom, depression and a feeling of comfort are also the causes for overeating.
