The Burning Tongue
Burning tongue is sometimes also called burning mouth. It is usually caused in middle-aged people and is a bad condition and takes long to heal. In this, the burning is caused in each corner of the tongue.
Burning tongue may be caused by yeast infection, certain hormonal imbalances during menopause, bad oral habits, nerve damage, iron deficiency, some disorders in gums and various others reasons.
Symptoms of Burning Tongue
Some of the symptoms can be dry mouth, loss of taste, thirst, burning sensation in mouth, some blisters in the mouth and also numbness at the tip of the tongue. Women experience them more than men.
Home Remedies for Burning Tongue
As soon as the burning sensation starts, stop all the spicy food that you eat. Chewing a sugar less chewing gum is the best remedy at that time. Eat fruits rich in vitamin B and C or have tablets of vitamin B. Drink more of water to keep the tongue moist as dry tongue can make the situation worse.
You can have juice of both fruits and vegetables, which are rich in vitamins. Eating leafy vegetables would help to clean the stomach properly and this would remove the toxins from the body.
Stop drinking tea and coffee. Avoid acidic drinks and do not smoke. Take honey with milk, as this will give instant relief. Eat home made food rich in proteins and vitamins and avoid fried foods.
Applying ice cube and glycerin would give cooling effect to the tongue. Lavender oil is also very helpful as it increases the blood flow to the tongue causing reduction in the pain and burning.
Deficiency of iron can also be the cause, so increase the intake of iron like eating fruits and vegetables rich in iron. You can even take iron tablets if the cause is the same.
Do not use toothpaste instead use baking soda to clean the teeth. Sometimes the burning tongue can be due to intake of medicines for cancer and AIDS treatment.
After doing these home remedies if there are no results then consult the doctor immediately.
