Testicular cancer
February 8, 2010
Testicular cancer is the most common type of cancer in men who belong to the age group between late teens and early 30s. This type of cancer is curable if diagnosed at an early stage.
Symptoms
Appearance of a lump may appear on one of the testicle. This testicle will feel heavier than the other testicle because of this lump. The lump may or may not be painful to touch. Inflammation occurs in the scrotum due to accumulation of a fluid called hydrocele.
The tumor may spread fast to the lungs and the bones causing difficulty in breathing and early fatigue. If penis is affected then a sore or an ulcer may appear on it. A similar sore may appear on lymph gland or the groin.
Check-up and Diagnose
Diagnose of the disease can be done by undergoing a biopsy, scan and chest X-rays. Self examination is highly recommended. Every few weeks men should check their testicles for any lump or ulcer.
Causes
Undescended testicles are found to be the most common cause of cancer of testicles. By undescended we mean that instead of falling into the scrotum the testicles remain inside the abdomen at the time of birth.
Recent studies show that high stress levels and a diet low in one or more vital nutrients are at a greater risk of developing this type of cancer. Hereditary and environment seem to play role in occurrence but their contribution is unclear. Most of the time cause of testicular cancer is not known clearly.
Treatment
Most of the time the affected testicles are removed but that depends upon the how much the cancer has spread. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy are other trusted options. Radiotherapy is done after examining how fast the tumor grows and how good is the blood supply of the patient.
In case of chemotherapy, proper functioning of excretory organs is confirmed before starting the treatment. This is done in order to make sure that the body will be able to excrete the chemotherapy drugs effectively and hence prevent accumulation of the toxins within the cells.
Other options available are Chakra balancing, reflexology and aromatherapy. These therapies only provide an additional help to deal with stronger treatments.
Testicular cancer can be prevented by having a healthy lifestyle, including a diet rich in antioxidants.
