Symptoms
Symptoms of sugar addiction are characteristic and easy to recognize. Sugar addicts often feel excessive craving for sweet foods and no day goes when do not have anything sweet. They often feel depressed and feel excited after consuming sugary items.
Sugar addicts often follow a certain pattern while consuming sugary foods. Sugary foods often become essential part of their consumption. It becomes a regular comfort food and dependency increases.
Health Hazards
There are several health and beauty hazards of eating excess sugar in diet. It deteriorates your immunity. The sugar molecules (glucose) have the same chemical structure as vitamin C molecule.
Hence the glucose molecules compete with the vitamin C, which is the essential vitamin which helps in building of the immunity. It requires just a little amount of glucose to as the amount of vitamin C depletes over time period. Hence, it becomes important to keep check on how much sugar one consumes daily.
It is for the same reason that diabetic people are susceptible to infection due to weak immunity.
Excess sugar is bad for healthy skin. It damages the collagen fiber and hence the skin starts to appear saggy before time.
Treatment
Dealing with sugar addiction is not very difficult in the initial stages. If you have a sweet tooth then keeps a check on your intake. One should find healthier sweet alternatives.
Instead of glucose, fructose should be consumed. This is found in all fresh fruits. Drink plenty of water as it helps in fighting all the cravings. Also, diverting mind by keeping oneself busy with activities helps decreasing craving to a major extend.
Use honey as a natural sweetener. Try avoiding synthetic sweeteners like aspartame, etc since they too have a reputation to damage brain cells over period of time. Quit alcohol. Alcohol bears large quantities of sugar.
If one can not avoid alcohol completely then switch to fruit alcohol than consuming grain based alcohol. Also, avoid eating out. Most of the restaurant food has added sugar. So, try eating at home as much as possible.
