Stye In The Eye

Stye is the name given to a small boil that can appear on the inner or outer of the eyelid. The eyelid gets swelled and is usually painful.

It occurs due to the blockage in sebaceous gland or any infection of the gland of the eye. It may also occur due to breakage of hair follicle on the eye.

Children can also suffer with this problem because of the toxins present in their body by consuming the food they eat like white bread, puddings, pies etc. In children reoccurrence can also take place as they rub the eyes frequently and the infection from one eye may transfer to the other eye.

In adults, it can be found in people with high level of lipids, in diabetes, some eyelid infections and many other conditions.

Symptoms

In the beginning, for around two days before the occurrence of stye, the eye becomes red and painful. Sometimes the symptoms disappear without forming the stye. But if the stye is formed, it causes pain and it may burst later discharging some mucus that causes the eye to stick while sleeping at night.

Treatment / Home Remedies

Stye can be rectified at home. Take a teaspoon of turmeric and boil it in two cups of water. Reduce the water to one cup by boiling. Cool it and strain it very nicely. Use this water as eye drop and put in your eyes for at least 3-4 times in a day.

Clove can also be helpful by first washing it in cool water and then applying it over the stye. It gives much relief and also helps to get rid of it.

Warm some guavas leaves and put them in a cloth and compress the eye using it. It reduces the pain and redness of the affected eye.

However, if these remedies do not provide any relief, consult the doctor immediately. Treatment options include antibiotics or surgical drainage.

Precautions

Some precautions should be taken to prevent the stye from occurring. Wash hands before touching the area around the eyes, do not strain or stress your eyes, never overdo the eye make up, use good cosmetic and never sleep with eye makeup and mind not to wear contact lenses when you have stye.
