Neurogenic stuttering is a type which occurs in people who have has some brain injury or stroke. The brain mainly controls the speech, so any harm to it causes problem in speaking.

Signs and Symptoms

The signs of stuttering start when the child begins to speak a little or you can say starts joining the words. If at the age of 5 also your child has this problem then you must seek the doctor.

Few other symptoms are there when you need to consult the doctor. If your child does repetition of words or phrases, he prolongs some words; there are some facial or body movements with stuttering, changes in the words or phrases due to risk of stuttering or any other speech related problem which is different from the normal.

Intervention

Parents of such kind of children can help them by following some simple steps. Never interrupt your child when he is speaking, let him speak the full sentence he is speaking and let him take his own time.

Do not let him tell a story or poem in front of anybody as people can laugh on his stuttering and he would feel bad for this.

Always speak clearly with your child whether he or she has the problem of stuttering or not. Tell everybody in the family to be polite with him and encourage him to talk and also everybody should talk clearly with him or her.

Talk slowly with him and ask him to also speak slowly. Regular practice of this makes the speech clear.
