Solutions for Cracked Heels

Cracked heels are a very common problem and are caused when one ignores the foot care. The heels crack means linear cuts appear on the heels that can be painful if not treated on time.

The most common reason for cracked skin is the lack of moisture in the skin. It can also be caused if constant pressure is applied or put on the feet. Extra care should be taken for any cuts on the foot, if the person is diabetic or has less immunity due to some illness.

The symptoms of cracked heels are red and flaky patches on the feet and itchy skin. The site may also bleed at times.

There may be a number of reasons for dry heels such as presence of dryness around the heels, wearing back open sandals and shoes, deficiency of vitamins and minerals in the diet, standing for a long time that can put extra pressure on the foot pad, being overweight or certain medical problems such as diabetes, thyroid, eczema and other skin conditions.

Caring for cracked heels is easy and can be managed at home. Apply vegetable oil on the cracked heels after the bath. Soak the feet in warm water with lemon juice for at least ten minutes and repeat it on weekly basis till you find some better changes.

Make a routine to soak your feet in warm water at the end of the day. Dry them and apply moisturizer or mix vaseline and lemon juice and apply it on the heels or other cracked areas of the skin till the time it is fully healed. Doing this on a daily basis would definitely give you very good results.

Another effective remedy is to melt paraffin wax and mix it with mustard oil and apply on the cracked heels overnight and wash off in the morning. Do it regularly and you would find desirable results within 10 to 12 days.

Some changes in the diet can also help to reduce the problem of cracked heels. Add vitamins, minerals, zinc and omega 3 products in your diet such as milk, curd, green fresh vegetables, juicy fruits, chicken, brown rice, fresh water fish etc.

The best solution to cracked heels is to prevent them from occurring. Devoting just 10 minutes in a day to your feet can be beneficial rather than treating the painful fissures later.
