Skin Care Tips for Men
Men hardly care about their skin. For some men use of an after shave lotion is the only cosmetic product to buy. But skin care is important for both men and women.
The first thing to understand is your skin type. There are four types of skin- oily, dry, combination and normal. To understand what type of skin you have place a thin tissue paper to cover your face. Place it right after you wake up in the morning.
Press the tissue slightly then remove it. If the entire tissue appears oily then you have an oily skin. If there is no oil at all then you have a dry skin. If the tissue appears very little oil and is even then you have a normal skin.
If the oil appears on the nose, forehead and chin region (T-zone) then you have combination of dry and oily skin. The skin care regime should be followed as per the skin.
Let us talk about shaving. It needs to be done in a right way. There are two ways of doing the shave. One is using the blade and the other is using the electric razor.
If you use a blade then apply splash face with hot water and pat dry before applying the shaving cream. Let the cream work for few minutes before you use the blade. After it is done use cold water to wash the face. Do not use hot water. Use an after shave cream instead of a liquid preparation. Do not use electric razor without a pre-shave lotion.
It is not normal for the skin to feel itchy after the shave. Always use a moisturizer after the shave is done.
In summers use a sunscreen with SPF 15 (most recommended for men) and avoid excess exposure to sun.
Skin of men is usually oilier than women. Open pores are more visible in men. Therefore exfoliation should be done twice every week.
Consumption of alcohol and tobacco worsen open pores and other skin problems. A regular exercise routine will increase uptake of oxygen by the skin and help in healing and rejuvenation. Drink a lot of water, even in winters, to keep the skin hydrated.
