Side Effects of Anabolic Steroids
February 23, 2009
Anabolic steroids are those steroids which increase the protein synthesis in body and are biologically equivalent to testosterone. Increased supplementation of anabolic steroids has severe side effects on the body. Here is what one must look out for.
The first and foremost side effect is that your body may stop secreting the natural hormones. In order to maintain the state of equilibrium or homeostasis, the body will understand that since there already is a presence of hormone in body why release more .
It simply disrupts the natural system of the body and has long lasting side effects.
Although still controversial, but intake of steroids hints at damaging of the liver. It may be due to steroid toxicity. Many males have shown development of Breast tissues, a condition called by the name of Gynocomastia.
This occurs due to increase in the levels of estrogen in body. A process called “aromatization” cause the conversion of androgens into estrogen. The condition gets worse with time. If excess presence of anabolic hormones occurs during puberty then tend to develop breast just like girls. Development of normal to acute acne may occur. This is due to the over secretion of sebaceous glands.
The oil secreted by them may combine with bacteria’s present on the surface to cause acne. Side effects of anabolic steroids also include initiation of early baldness in men. There have been many case studies to understand the concept.
Becoming more cautious, enlargement of prostate is caused by excess presence of anabolic steroids. The obvious hike in blood pressure is been reported. The additional problem of sodium and water retention due to steroid intake is the possible explanation for the condition.
Anabolic steroids have shown to disturb the optimal functioning of immune system of the body. Also, it may cause temporary sterility in males.
A possible remedy could be to use anti-oestrogenic substances to overcome some of the side effects.

I have taken Prednisone and Florinef daily for 43 years for Addison’s Disease and wan to know if it can effect eyesight as my vision changes daily as of the past year. If so, what can help? I cannot stop taking the steroids as I will be dead in 5 days. (A change of doctors, years ago, did not believe I had Addison’s
Disease and registered me in the hospital after first stopping me on the steroids for 3 days. Day 3 I could not finish a sentence I was saying. If I knelt down I could not get up under my own power. I also could not eat. Steroid injection given to me cleared up everything in about 1 hour.
