Save yourself from Sun

March 6, 2009

Sun allergy is the condition one gets most vulnerable to in summers. The degree of sensitivity in an individual greatly influences the symptoms to sun allergy.

The early symptoms may be reddened patches across the skin,
circles around the arm. Usually drinking home made remedies out
of coconut water and yogurt provide instant relief. But in sever cases complete medication course is to be done.

The most severe case related to sunlight is urticaria. Urticaria is triggers by several secondary causes. These include water, exercise, pressure and cold. This condition affects some 30 percent of population across the globe.

Most common symptoms include redness of the skin, itching which can not be satisfied and occurrence of hives on the skin. These hives may appear also on unexposed areas.

There is a theory according to which, the urticaria caused by sunlight promotes production of allergic antibiotics which are against the proteins of the host skin.

Due to sunlight, the biological structure of these self skin protein changes and hence leads to development of hives. This is a serious matter since a sudden onset of anaphylactic action can occur. Therefore excess exposure to sunlight must be avoided.

The diagnosis of sun caused urticaria is some what tricky. It is not just based on the family history or independent history of the person. The person is exposed to lights of different wavelengths and spectrum. In rare cases, diagnosis can be done only in presence of sunlight. The dermatologists have special equipments for this.

Diagnosis is important since the symptoms may be common to other skin conditions such as porphyria and polymorphous light eruption.

The treatment includes using both topical as well as internal medications. Antihistamines and steroids are choice of drugs for treatment. Although topical application in the form of creams is enough but oral steroids are given in extreme conditions.
