Remedies For Indigestion
Indigestion is another name for upset stomach. It happens when a person eats too much or too fast. With indigestion acid builds up in the body which in turn causes heartburn.
Heartburn has nothing to do with the heart. In heartburn, burning feeling builds up in the chest and ends ups in the neck and throat. The acid in the stomach reflects back and the taste of the mouth becomes sour.
Stress, excessive smoking, insufficient sleep and excessive drinking of alcohol can also be the causes for indigestion. Indigestion is also common in children as they eat junk food.
Some medical disorders like ulcers, cancer and bile duct problems can also lead to indigestion.
Criticality
Indigestion could be serious if it is accompanied with frequent vomiting, blood in vomiting, weight loss, loss in appetite, black tanny stool, difficulty in swallowing the food, shortness of breath or continuous abdominal pain.
Prevention / Home Remedies
There are some tips to avoid indigestion. First of all if you are a regular patient of indigestion then you must avoid eating oily and spicy food. Drink a glass of water with lemon or vinegar in it before every meal. Avoid taking large meals rather take small meals. If you smoke, stop it immediately.
For instant relief add some baking soda in the water and drink it. Do exercise on regular basis like walking, playing etc. Some yoga asanas could help you in overcoming indigestion.
Taking pineapple juice after a meal is also beneficial. Eating an orange also helps a lot as it gives rest to the digestive system and provides nutrition. Applying some cold packs on the stomach after the meals also helps. Chewing a small piece of ginger with some salt before meal stimulates digestion.
Mix 5 to 6 chopped Holy basil leaves with sea salt and black pepper with one spoon curd, take it 4 to 5 times in a day. Repeat this for a week. This would do the re-conditioning of the stomach.
Add three drops of garlic oil and three drops of soya oil and rub on the stomach after the food. This would not let indigestion to occur and also prevent flatulence.
