Preventing Miscarriage
The care about avoiding a miscarriage does not necessarily start when the baby is conceived. A woman must take care of her reproductive organs and health in general to avoid miscarriage in future.
For example, habit of excess smoking and drinking increase chances of miscarriage before and during pregnancy. Still, many women ignore this much obvious advice and indulge freely in such habits.
General Causes of Miscarriage
Women who have had eating disorders or other conditions which leave them anemic must get checked if they are having enough RBC-count (hemoglobin) to bear a pregnancy. Eating healthy will prepare your body for pregnancy. Also, if you have already conceived then take your supplements of iron and vitamins as directed. Being in an abusive relation or facing traumatic stress may lead to miscarriage.
Women who suffer from acute back ache and during menstrual cramps must not ignore it and consult their physician. During the pregnancy keep a check on any type of abnormal discharge from the vagina. Bleeding, even in small amounts is not normal during pregnancy. In case of any such thing just call the doctor.
Inevitable Reasons of Miscarriage
Many a times the cause of miscarriages is inevitable. Bacterial infections of chlamydia, streptococcus and viral infections like toxoplasmosis may cause miscarriages. Hormonal imbalance in women can also lead to early miscarriage.
Women who have had history of hormonal therapies, PMS, etc must make sure that they have enough progesterone in the body to maintain proper functioning of the reproductive system and support growth of the fetus.
Women who experience first time pregnancy at a very late age, i.e. after 35, have a high risk of facing miscarriages. Also, risk of development of Down`s syndrome increases in such cases. This is because, with age, the eggs in female start to get deteriorated.
Types of Miscarriage
Miscarriages itself are of many types. When the entire contents of the uterus have been expelled out it is called a complete miscarriage. When only a part of the uterine contents are expelled it is called an incomplete miscarriage. Missed miscarriage is determined by the physician once the uterus stops to grow. In this, the fetus dies inside the uterus but the women experiences no bleeding to suggest a miscarriage.
