Preventing Miscarriage

Miscarriage is a complete end to the known pregnancy before the foetus can survive. It can happen due to several reasons. Vaginal bleeding is a common phase for every fourth women. But it does not completely abort the pregnancy. Miscarriage is said to be the spontaneous abortion to the pregnancy.

Causes of Miscarriage

The main cause of miscarriage is separation of the foetus from the placenta (at the uterine wall). Any abnormality in the foetus in the first three months of the pregnancy can cause miscarriage and miscarriage during fourth to sixth month is due to abnormality in mother rather than foetus. Miscarriage is most prevalent in women over 35 years of age.

Some chronic illness like diabetes, very high blood pressure, kidney diseases, malfunctioning of thyroid gland can also cause miscarriage. Stress or shock can also be the causes for miscarriage. Intake of excess of caffeine, alcohol, tobacco and excess of smoking can also cause miscarriage. These all factors can lead to miscarriage and even severe abnormalities in the growing foetus.

Types of Miscarriage

One type of miscarriage is threatened miscarriage. In this a small amount of bleeding and cramps occur. This can occur due to some cervical polyp. One can check this by ultrasound only.

Second type of miscarriage is inevitable miscarriage in which heavy bleeding with cramps occur and no one can stop this because the cervix has dilated and placenta and foetus are on their way to get expelled.

Third type of miscarriage is incomplete miscarriage. In this membrane, placenta and foetus are spontaneously expelled and placenta is only retained. In this the left over tissues are removed from the uterus by medicines or by doing D&C.

Miscarriage Prevention

Prevention is better than cure. One needs to prepare oneself for the pregnancy. If you are trying for a baby then get all your hormonal tests done. By this you can maintain a good level in your body, which would not cause any complication further.

Start taking a healthy diet and avoid all that junk food. Even if you get pregnant by chance no need to worry. As soon as you come to know about your pregnancy consult your gynecologist. She would conduct the entire necessary tests.
