Preventing Jet Lag

Jet lag is characterized by discomfort that the mind and the body experiences after a long journey. Ideally, a journey of 12 hours or more causes jet lag but it may also happen to people traveling for shorter distance.It is for the same reasons that long distance flights have a stop in between. Travelling between different time zones is yet another reason why people face such difficulty.

Exercise

Remove foot wear and rotate feet clockwise and anticlockwise whenever needed. Carry two tennis balls with you. Place each ball under your feet. Move right foot forward, pressing the ball underneath. Likewise, move left foot slightly backwards. Then bring right foot backwards and move left foot forward.

The butt may start aching due to too much of sitting. Here is an interesting exercise for the buttocks. Go to the toilet. Stand against a wall with your back facing the wall. Press the right butt to the wall and then the left one. Continue this for 10 to 15 minutes.

Food Choices

Include more fluids in the diet. Avoid eating raw vegetables. Do not experiment with new dishes during the journey. Choose foods that can be easily digested. Avoid fried and very spicy food.

If there are no choices available then drink 2-3 liter of water. It will solve most of the digestion related problems. Avoid consuming alcohol.

Things to Remember

One must take care of few things during journey. Do not remain in one position for more than a few hours. Make sure the circulation of blood is uniform in the body. Do not allow the legs to hang from the seat of a very long time. The feet may swell due to lack of motion. Sit crossed leg once in a while.

Keep a fixed time to sleep during the journey. Very less sleep or excess sleep can both make the jet lack worse. Most of the travelers consume a few alcoholic drinks and dose off during the journey. It is not a healthy practice.

Wear comfortable cloths. Tight cloths will block circulation and make you uncomfortable.

Keep in touch with changes in the time zones. Announcements are made after every couple of hours about the geographical locations. Keep yourself mentally prepared for the new place.
