Preventing Condom Failure

Condoms are the highest selling over- the- counter (OTC) contraception method. There are loop holes in almost every OTC contraception method, including condoms. Here are a few tips to prevent failure of condoms during intercourse.

How to use the Condom

Condoms must be unrolled onto the penis before there is any contact between the two human sex organs. Open the pack carefully and make sure the condom does not tear. Blow air in the condom to check for any holes or tears.

Some men cover the penis to the top. Do not do that. Leave space so that the ejaculation can be collected easily after the intercourse.

Try to roll the condom downwards to check if it has been placed well. Make sure that the condom is easy to remove on unrolling.

Use a lubricant during the intercourse. Use of condom may feel foreign to the tissues of vagina but with right amount of lubrication desired pleasure can be achieved.

Once the act is over, hold the upper end of the condom and gently remove it from the vagina. Make sure you do not do any sexual activity while removing the condom.

Now, hold the tip of the condom with one hand and unroll the condom from the penis with the other hand. Tie knot to the open end of the condom and throw it in dust bin. Never re-use a condom.

Condom may Break if

Always check the expiry date before purchase of a condom. It will break if it’s past its expiry date. Condoms must not be stored in a very warm place. The heat tends to damage the latex which may tear anytime during use. As long as it is stored in a well ventilated place like a wallet or a shelf, condoms will be ready for use.

Never use a condom which does not fit properly. Neither uses a very long condom nor a very short one. Use of wrong lubricant can also cause condom to break. If you are using latex condoms then use water based lubricants.

Sometimes, the condom may fit you well but the vaginal wall of the women (virgin) may be very tight and this may tear the condom tip.
