Marma is the seat of prana (life energy). An injury, a malfunction, or excess pressure to marma can be fatal. Heart is the prime marma among 107 marmas of human body. This explains the importance of heart treatments in ayurveda.
Cause for Heart Problems
According to ayurvedic texts, heart problems arise due to anxiety, repression of vega, digestive disorders, or an injury to one or any part of heart. There are 13 types of vega .
They should not be blocked forcefully from occurring. Hiccups, cough, vomiting, yawning, sneezing, thirst, hunger etc. are some of the vega. If these are repressed, they can lead to ailments related to excess vata and heart diseases.
Unhealthy food habits like daily intake of meat, fish, eggs etc. that are difficult to digest, improper food combinations (e.g. meat and curd, fish and milk), intake of fried food items, over eating etc.
Can increase undigested residue or ama in your body. According to ayurvedic experts, eating disorders is the prime reason for an unhealthy heart.
Strong disturbances to mind due to anxiety and strain can also cause heart diseases. Such disturbances are strong enough to alter the normal pulse rate and breathing. Emotions like anger and fear can increase the level of chemicals like adrenalin resulting in heart attack.
Treatment for Heart Diseases
Heart ailments are as per the symptoms exhibited that differs according to the body type. Medication prescribed is meant to treat both the disease as well as its cause. They include medicated oils (to apply to the chest), pellets and decoctions that can be prepared at home or are available readymade.
Prevention
In order to prevent heart diseases, ayurvedic physicians strongly recommend diet control. Garlic grinded to a fine paste in milk if taken daily can reduce the soaring levels of triglycerides and cholesterol. As per ayurveda food intake should be restricted to twice a day.
It is said in ayurvedic texts that diabetes, bile diseases, arthritis, high blood pressure, and other diseases related to obesity can be effectively controlled through diet control.
Ayurveda recommends less food and more exercise to keep your heart healthy. Since heart diseases can be hereditary in nature, the onset of such diseases can be effectively controlled through diet control and regular exercises, according to ayurvedic physicians. They also recommend practice of yoga and meditation to prevent heart diseases.
