PMS Cures

Most common problem faced by women suffering from PMS includes weight gain due to water retention, unwanted hair growth, early fatigue and increased emotional sensitivity. Here are a few helpful tips for PMS patients.

Women suffering from PMS must keep patience. Excess emotional outbursts will only worsen their condition and may even induce vaginal bleeding. In order to avoid irregular periods and maintain one cycle in a month contraceptive pills are prescribed.

But many women have shown to respond aggressively because of the mood swings due to contraceptive pills. Also, the pills may contribute in weight gain causing more stress to the women. Hence use of the pills to regulate the cycle must be avoided. Herbs such as Black cohosh can be used instead.

Drinking enough water and eating foods such as water melon, plums, carrots that are natural diuretics help in reduction of water retention. Salt, caffeine and alcohol consumption must be minimal.

Do not fall for sugar and salt cravings right before the periods. Eat fruits and drink herbal teas to deal with the cravings. Most women gain up to 2 pounds of weight right before their periods every month because of these cravings. Avoid foods such as spinach and cabbage which may increase salt retention inside the body.

Supplementation with calcium, vitamin E, A and selenium help in dealing with PMS symptoms. 300 mg of calcium is necessary to deal with weight problems. PMS symptoms tend to put pressure on bones and hence loss of calcium from the bones.

Exercises form a critical part of PMS treatment. These help in release of endorphins which promote healing of the body. Exercises also help in bringing the hormones progesterone and estrogen to the right levels. Selection of exercises should be such that they do not put excess pressure on the uterus. Halasana and dhanurasana are found to be helpful in PMS.

It is interesting to note that some women do not want to get over their PMS symptoms because of the aggressive mood changes it offers. But there are many women who face significant interruption in their life because of PMS.

PMS is not a disease yet it is something very serious. Untreated PMS puts women at a higher risk to osteoporosis, stroke, early menopause, high blood pressure and kidney problems.
