Personality Disorders Common in Women
The way we behave, talk and think establishes our personality. Each one of us have habits and emotions characteristic to ourselves but when things become edgy and our daily life is effected, we should know that something is surely wrong.
Histronic Personality Disorder (HPD)
Key symptom of histrionic personality disorder is being overdramatic towards situations, feelings and people. Everyone has a tendency to lose their senses in the heat of the moment but when it becomes a habit such that your relationships and life in routine is affected then you need to consult a psychiatrist.
Other symptoms include urge to be the center of attraction and you become extremely irritated if you are not the centre of attraction. Other symptoms of histrionic personality disorder include an intense urge to draw attention of people towards you, especially through physical appearance.
Untreated HPD puts the patient at a greater risk of suffering from depression.
Dependent Personality Disorder (DPD)
In this, the person is dependent on others about how they should lead their life. Their life surrounds around opinion of others and they are not able to take decisions about their life independently. It could range from a simple thing like not going for shopping alone to more serious things like not eating properly because of lack of company.
DPD patients crave to be around people and want to be cared by someone always. They will want someone else to make decisions for them. They suffer from low self esteem and self-confidence.
DPD patients often have abusive relationships.
Borderline Personality Disorder
Most of the people suffering from BPD commit suicide due to excess bitterness towards themselves or towards the world. They have a tendency to harm themselves one way or the other.
They lack self worth and indulge in extreme behaviors such as binge eating, driving without caution and participating in daring activities to feel better. But nothing seems to work.
Most of the BPD patients are addicts. They may be sex addicts, sugar addicts, drug addicts or alcohol addicts.
Treatment for Personality Disorders
Treatment options include giving medication and consultation. Antidepressants and antipsychotics are given in case of BPD. Anti-anxiety and anti-depressants are given in case of DPD and HPD.
Therapies include psychodynamics, dialectrical behavior therapy and cognitive-behavior therapy.
