Permanent Cure From Acidity

February 18, 2010

Gastric acids pepsin, trypsin, CCK and HCL are secreted for digestion of the food. Over secretion of these acids, such that they irritate the mucous membrane of the stomach, cause a burning sensation.

Acidity needs to be taken seriously otherwise it may lead to peptic ulcer disease, gastric reflux or GERD. Therefore, people suffering from acidity must stick to a certain type of a lifestyle.

Right Food Choices

Choose alkaline foods over acidic foods in daily routine to solve most the problems. Acidic foods are those foods which either aggravate acid secretion or themselves carry acids. Alkaline foods will help in diluting the excess release of acids inside the body.

List of alkaline foods include onions, cauliflower, asparagus, turnip, spinach, carrots and garlic. These foods can be taken along with acidic foods to decrease their effect.

For example, if you cannot avoid an acidic food item then use alkaline drinks like distilled water, lime water, herbal tea, almond milk, or vegetable juice to decrease their effect.

Most of the dairy products are acidic in nature. This means egg, whole-fat milk, ice cream and cheese will cause acidity. Drinking of cold milk is observed as a remedy to treat acidity. But presence of excess calcium can actually cause re-bound acidity. Hence these should be avoided.

Other acidic foods to avoid are biscuits, white bread, mayonnaise, soy sauce and honey.

Trusted Home Remedies

Eating a small portion of jaggery is a well trusted remedy for acidity. It must be sucked upon and not chewed. It has to be taken every hour. Make sure the that jaggery you are consuming is a pure product and not made using artificial sweeteners. This will only make the situation worse.

Cardamom and clove can also be kept in mouth and sucked slowly to neutralize the acids. In case of excess acidity, eat cucumber and banana every hour after the meal. Eat fruits like water melon and melon which carry rich content of water.

Water neutralizes the acids. Hence, it is highly recommended that water must be consumed right after waking up in the morning. Use of spices like pudina and ginger, in cooking, improves digestion and balances the acids.

Other Factors

Use of antibiotics, medicines containing diclofenac sodium may be responsible for regular acidity problem.
