Peptic Ulcer Disease
Peptic ulcer disease is a disease of the GIT and is more prevalent in people who are emotionally sensitive in nature. There are mainly 5 types of peptic ulcer diseases. Let us try to understand the general signs and symptoms of peptic ulcer.
Peptic ulcer is characterized by a lot of nausea and vomiting in addition to experiencing bloating and abdominal fullness.The patients report pain in abdomen after about 3 hours of consumption of meal. Heartburn and loss of appetite is also experienced. There is also sudden weight loss.
The risk for development of peptic ulcer increases. But it can happen to anyone. Infection of H.pylori is understood to peptic ulcer disease. Also, the disturbance in the balance of acids released in the stomach causes peptic ulcer. Therefore the treatment includes substances which balance the secretions of the glands in GIT. Chronic stress causes ulceration.
The diagnosis can be done by series of tests. These include urea breth test and stool antigen test. There is a test in which the EGD specimen is obtained from H.pylori culture test. Measurement of the antibody level present in the blood is also done. Histological examination of EGD biopsy is done to confirm the peptic ulcer disease.
The disease itself is life-threatening and upon that some complications are also attached.
Gastrointestinal bleeding is the most serious complication for peptic ulcer patients. In this the bleeding starts due to erosion of a blood vessel by the expanding ulcer.Pyloric stenosis is yet another complication.The ulcer may try to penetrate to nearby organs like liver and pancreas. This may seriously complicate things further.
The peptic ulcer patients must care for their life style. They must control their anger and improve their ability to deal with stress. They should eat a balanced diet. There should eat more alkaline substances that help in neutralization of acids. Meals must always be taken on time.
