Palpitation Care

Forceful or/and irregular unpleasant beating of the heart are termed as palpitation. It is usually believed that people suffering palpitation have a cardiac problem, especially arrhythmias. But in some cases there may not be any heart trouble at all.
Palpitations are of different types. These could be artial fibrillation and flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, premature artial contraction or pre-mature ventricular contraction.
Cause
Abnormal levels of calcium, magnesium, potassium may lead to development of palpitation. Health conditions like anemia, asthma and hyperthyroidism may also cause palpitations. It may even occur as side effects of drugs like theophylline and albuterol.
Structural abnormality of the heart may also lead to development of frequent palpitation. Menstrual problems, especially during menopause may make some women experience palpitations along with hot flashes.
Symptoms
The unpleasant sensational may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Frequent episodes may lead to development of chest pain and lightheadedness.
Role of Diet
Diet plays an important role in taking care of palpitation. All those foods which stimulate palpitation must be avoided. These include chocolates, coffee, alcohol, sugary syrups and white rice. Use of strong condiments like red chili flakes, etc must be avoided.
The person must follow healthy eating habits including fruits and vegetables. Foods like alfalfa seed sprouts, green gram, whole-wheat, buttermilk and nuts are good.
Diagnosis
Disturbed blood pressure and pulse are first vital checks done by the healthcare professional. These may suggest an underlying cause of palpitation. Blood tests and electrolyte tests are also done.
Home Remedies
A honey-based drink can just help you in preventing palpitation at night. Take about 250 ml of water in a glass and add half tbsp of lemon juice and one tbsp of honey to it. Sip slowly before going to bed.
Many health experts believe that palpitation occurs due to magnesium of deficiency. Therefore eating foods rich in magnesium like skimmed milk, nuts and green leafy vegetables may just do the trick.
Take equal amounts of jaggery, coriander powder and aniseed. Grind them together and take 6 grams of this mixture after every meal thrice a day.
One simple remedy is to drink a glass of pure grape juice every day. Being physically fit is very important for getting rid of palpitations permanently. Indulge in physical activities like swimming and yoga.
