Painful Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are four in number and are called third molars. This name is given as they are just behind the second molar. They emerge very late not in the childhood but may be in your teens or late twenties. Also in some people they do not emerge at all.

Symptoms

When these wisdom teeth grow, there is pain, which cannot be tolerated. Pain occurs because these teeth do not get enough space to grow. These teeth erupt partly and are also not possible to be cleaned easily. So food particles accumulate in them and causes gum diseases.

Extraction

Some wisdom teeth cause so much problem that they need to be taken out. Some of them can be listed as pain or irritation due to the emergence of the teeth because of its angle, partially coming teeth cause swelling of the gums and also some gum disease can be the possible reasons for taking out the teeth.

Home Remedies

Some home remedies can be tried to stop the pain caused by wisdom teeth.

Chewing a garlic with little bit of salt helps to kill the bacteria that is causing tooth decay. Mix some oil with some olive oil and place it on the teeth and chew it slowly and the pain would go away. Do not sleep with cotton in the mouth or you can be choked. Same way a piece of onion put on the aching tooth relieves the pain due to its anti-bacterial properties which helps to kill the germs causing pain.

Lemon is also useful in maintaining dental hygiene and also if applied to the aching tooth gives relief from pain. Sucking some ice or placing it on the gums would numb the area and provide temporary relief. Same way a piece of cucumber held against the gum line would help in reducing the pain.

Massaging the gums would give relief as it would increase the blood circulation in the area. Gargling with hot water with salt added to it relieves the inflammation and kills the bacteria that cause pain.

Hot, sweet and spicy foods are to be avoided during wisdom tooth pain. Take only simple foods.
