There are many joints in our body. Out of all knee joint is the largest and the most complicated one. Knee joint helps the leg to bend and straighten, thereby helping in walking, sitting, running etc. Even all weight of our body rests on the knees.
Since all the motion or movement of the body depends upon the knee, so all such motions increase the risk of getting knee injuries.
Knee pain can be due to various reasons. Among them, osteoporosis of knee is the most common cause of knee pain. It increases with the age. Exercise is necessary to keep the muscles around the knee strain free.
Anything done after a long period and for greater time that includes the knee activity like aerobics, running, jumping or walking can also cause knee pain.
If the pain occurs behind the kneecap and often increases while climbing stairs, jumping or running, it is known as runner’s knee. In this condition, the kneecap gets out of place.
You can prevent knee pain by keeping your knee strong. This can be done by regular exercise. Walk before running or jogging. Do some knee stretching exercises regularly. Do not run up and down the stairs fastly, always take some rest. Above all, proper footwear’s should be worn.
Maintaining weight is the best remedy to prevent knee pain. Don’t let the weight increase, as all the weight burdens your knees only.
If you are not able to walk properly, had any injury, knee pain is getting worse, or it is becoming hard to bend your knee, then visit your doctor as soon as possible. Various treatments of knee are available depending upon the cause and severity of the pain.
Some treatments can be done by own but depending upon one’s condition. Rest is necessary as and when you get knee pain. This will help in reducing the swelling in the joint. Ice packs or heating treatment can be taken which ever suits. Various asana’s in yoga are also helpful. Certain medicines are also there to relieve the pain.
