Oral Hygiene Is Important

June 23, 2009

Teeth are the hardest parts of human body other than bones. They are made up of hard material called dentin and covered with a thin layer of enamel, which is the hardest substance in the body. The enamel is supplied with small blood vessels as well as nerves.

When one gets a tooth problem, it is usually with the nerves. In case of tooth decay, it can break and crack easily. This is the reason why one should keep the teeth in good condition by maintaining proper oral conditions.

Three main steps to maintain a good oral hygiene are doing proper brushing; regular visits to dentist and flossing teeth.

The main reasons to keep good oral hygiene are to prevent building up of plague (a sticky film of bacteria on the teeth), which causes many dental problems such as infection or loss of tooth and even infection in the gums.

Other problems such as oral thrush, bad breath and many others are also the result of bad oral hygiene.

Keeping good oral conditions can stop these symptoms to grow and only few minutes are needed to do so.

One should maintain oral hygiene from childhood itself. Use good toothbrush and toothpaste. Visit your dentist regularly as he can teach you how to properly brush the teeth.

Brush your teeth twice a day and floss once in day. Avoid more of sugar or sugar made products in your diet. Remember to brush after having sweets.

Sometimes parents do not encourage their children to brush as they say that their teeth would break after a period of time, so they need not worry about cavities. But this is wrong! Teeth help the child to chew and speak clearly. Children with cavities don’t eat properly; they have to undergo treatments that are painful. The milk teeth hold the place for permanent teeth also. So, if the base is not strong then how could be the permanent teeth?

Your teeth are said to be in good condition if you have pink gums, they don’t hurt and do not bleed while brushing and also if you do not have the constant problem of bad breath.
