Surgeries involve incisions on both the superficial skin and internal organs. Wounds may become infected if left untreated leading to serious fungal/viral diseases. Thus, it is important to prepare the body in such a way that it is able to heal faster and repair the damage in no time.
What to Eat Before Surgery?
Surgery results in much loss of cellular tissue. The diet before the surgery should be rich in protein, fiber, calcium, vitamin F and vitamin C.
The proteins in the diet will ensure that the body is capable of healing the damage without any delay. A high fiber diet, along with yogurt will aid in growth of helpful bacteria in the intestine.
The vitamins and minerals taken are helpful in maintaining of optimal functioning of the body.
Stimulants like tobacco, tea and coffee must be avoided completely. This diet must be started at least 1 month before the surgery.
What to Eat After Surgery?
One will need to have a diet which is ready to digest yet is high in nutrition. After surgery the body may be under stress and it may be difficult at first to start with standard meals.
Juices and soups form a major part of the diet after the surgery. Orange juice, aloe vera juice and black grapes juice are highly recommended since they provide multiple sources of vitamins and minerals.
Help From Supplements
Certain vitamins and minerals have a respectful reputation when it comes to healing of the body. Magnesium is known to increase biochemical processes in the body to fasten healing.
Vitamin P and C need to be given in small but frequent doses since they are easily lost through urine.
They aid in repair of the tissues. Zinc too helps in preparing the tissue damage. Additionally, it works as an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent and aids in expelling out these infections from the body.
Vitamin C, in combination with selenium, zinc and vitamin A are needed to overcome effects of anesthetics.
Vitamin F heals the wound and E avoids occurrence of blood clots.
Vitamin B-complex is necessary to help deal with fatigue and physical stress of the body.
Horsetail and goldenseal are herbs in help in over all recover after the surgery.
