Nosebleeds: Cause and Remedies

A bleeding nose may be result of damage tissues in the nose or due to excess summer heat. Sudden nosebleeds may suggest some medical condition or even some deficiency. Let us try to understand nose bleeds better.
Causes of Nosebleeds
If a person suffers from bleeding disorders such as hemorrhages, hematuria, etc then nose bleeds are common and dangerous. Bleeding disorder is often inherited and the only precaution is to prevent physical injury of any form.
Those with vitamin K deficiency may also suffer from common nosebleeds. Vitamin K is an essential factor for clot formation. Vitamin K deficiency does not cause only nosebleeds but it is often accompanied by other problems such as excess bleeding during periods, bleeding gums, etc.
One must be careful during picking of nose. Aggressive nose picking may damage fragile tissues on the inside and cause bleeding. Also, the dryness caused during winters may be another factor to cause a bleeding nose.
Elderly people with atherosclerosis, slight infections and hypertension often consume drugs containing salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is a potential blood thinner. Continuous consumption of this drug may cause nosebleeds.
Drug abuse (like cocaine consumption) and excess smoking also cause bleeding in nose.
Even if so many factors are available to put the blame on yet most studies suggest that it is not always possible to find the exact cause of nosebleeds.
Take an empty sprayer (small in size) and put a glass of water in which a pinch of salt has been dissolved. Spray it inside of the nose to stop the bleeding.
Those with very frequent nosebleeds, here is a herbal remedy for them. Mix 6 parts of horsetail grass, 4 parts of Comfrey root and, 3 parts of oat straw and 1 part of lobelia in powder form. One tbsp of this herb is enough for one grass of water. Drink this herbal tea every morning and evening
Place a cotton ball dipped in apple cider vinegar on the bleeding nose. Relief can be obtained by shifting to more humid surroundings.
Application of ice packs is also effective. Avoid eating blood thinning foods like berries, grapes, almonds, apricots and apples.
