No More Backache

Backache is a common problem in young and old alike. Most common causes of backache is strain to the spine. Strain may be caused by lifting weight wrongly or by sitting, standing in a bad posture for long hours. Medical conditions such as obesity or enlarged organs may also cause back ache.

Help From Yoga

Certain modifications of tadaasana are helpful in bringing relief to the backache. One such position is explained here.

Place a mat on the floor and a small wooden block (height slight above your ankle) on to your right side, touching the wall behind you. Stand straight (tadaasana) and inhale slowly. Open your arms parallel to your shoulders.

Spread legs about 1 meter apart. You should be standing such that your knees and buttocks should be touching the wall behind you. Now, turn the right foot such that it is parallel to the wall. Turn the left foot slightly right such that it is perpendicular to the wall.

Slowly bend your body towards right until you touch the wooden block with right hand. The left hand should be upwardly straight, parallel to the wall. Look towards the left hand. Stay in this position for 20 seconds then slowly come back. Do the posture with left foot.

Remedies

Backache can be made better by improving circulation in that region. Tea drinkers can do this remedy. To whatever tea one uses, add a few black pepper corns, 3 pinch of dry ginger powder and 4-5 cloves. Let it brew a little longer than usual in the water of the tea. Milk in tea can be avoided for this remedy.

Rubbing of clove oil or garlic oil on to the back is very helpful in relieving the back ache.

Things to Remember

Shoe heels interrupt with the natural posture of the spine. Constant use of heels may lead to formation of an abnormal spine curvature. Such an abnormability may take much longer to treat.

Thus, it is important to choose the right type of footwear that does not put much pressure on your spine.

Try sleeping without pillow. Choose the mattress carefully. It should neither be too soft nor too hard. The mattress should be such that your body is leveled equally.
