Myopia is caused if the eyeball is very long or there is curvature in the cornea. Due to this, the light entering the eye is not focused properly and far away objects look blurred. Nearsightedness is said to be hereditary and also people with stressed eyes due to certain working conditions or some medical problem like diabetes also suffer from the same.
It affects the children more as compared to adults. So they are not able to see the things written on the blackboard in the school. Near sightedness can also be due to variations in the blood sugar levels or variations in blood sugar levels can also cause myopia. Cataract also develops very early in people suffering from diabetes.
Some people have night myopia, which means these people are not able to see the far objects during night specially. This is because the light entering the eye during night is not able to reflect back properly.
Treatment
When a person has problem in seeing the far away objects, he should go to the doctor. The doctor would test the eyes by making the person wear different lens of different number and then would make a number for the spectacles which one can wear and modify the problem of nearsightedness.
Nowadays laser surgery is also done to rectify the problem of nearsightedness. It is done in adults in whom a little tissue from the eye is removed and the cornea is reshaped. People with high-level problems would undergo surgery by which a lens is implanted in the eye in front of the original lens. Sometimes the old lens is removed and the new one is fitted.
