Men, Soy and Infertility
October 3, 2008
The protein diet that men take as part of muscle gain may actually lead to infertility. This is what the recent researches have to say. Some men have been observed to avoid so products due to its connection with women hormones. This is in fact, true. What else do you need to know? Read on.
Men who have been taking a soy rich diet have complained of having fertility problems. The soy constitutes of isoflavones which act as agonists or copies of estrogen hormones. This increased amount of Soy in their body highlightened another health harm. Due to increased concentrations of estrogen, the body fat percentage of men may actually increase.
This factor is naturally higher in women due to presence of estrogen hormone. Under such situation, the men who try to maintain a leaner shape will face great difficulties. We may say that increased intake of soy would reduce tendency of men to lose body fat. Already, overweight men are facing trouble with fertility.
If the take soy products as source of their protein diet for weight loss; the result would not be positive.
The good news is that it is not very difficult to avoid soy products. Most eatables lack soy ingredients. Moreover, there is a therapeutic level after which soy levels must be controlled. According to an experiment, rats were fed with a diet containing 2 mg/kg bodyweight. There was no harmful effect observed on them.
But an increased levels of 20mg (as moderate) and 100mg (high dosage) showed serious
harm on their fertility.
Under fertile conditions, sperms prefer to have an alkaline environment. Foods that produce good amount of ammonia after metabolic activities are beneficial. A diet rich in Zinc is also helpful in maintaining good fertility. Foods rich in zinc metal are almonds, oyesters, nuts, whole grains, seeds and beans. It not just increases the testosterone levels in your body but also increases the sperm count. A point worth noting here is that soy concentration in your blood will reduce the absorption of zinc by the body.
