Male Infertility: Causes And Remedies
November 12, 2009
It is a myth that infertility is related to urge in men. In recent past several reasons have come in lime light that cause lack of ability of men to reproduce.
Excess smoking, alcohol and stress are most common factors that cause infertility. Smoking reduces the sperm count and sperm motility. Smoking more than 20 cigarettes in a day increases the risk significantly.
Alcohol reduces the ability of the man to perform sexually. Since the peak is not achieved, the secretion is not released. Alcohol reduces production of both sperms and testosterone (male hormone).
Stress and fatigue act in the same way the alcohol behaves. Men feel exhausted and hence can not perform sexual act.
Heat plays a critical role in making men infertile. Obese men are most likely to become sterile because of the accumulation of the fat layer near the testicles. Men who need to sit for hours and hours together; the heat generated during such sittings may gradually cause sterility. That is why hot-tubs are not for men. The heat damages natural production of sperms.
Infection in the semen due to some disease may be yet another cause, but it is rare. Frequent sexual intercourse may be the cause not being able to provide enough sperms for fertilization. This explains how libido has nothing to do with fertility in men.
Presence of antibodies in the semen, causing their clumping could be the culprit. This can be verified by screening semen sample.
Disturbance in hormones like testosterone, follicular stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, thyroid and prolactin are rare but this effect fertility critically.
One care condition is Klinefelter’s Syndrome. In this the chromosomal aberration leads to presence of an extra “X” chromosome and thus causing infertility. The X chromosome signifies the female chromosome.
Remedies
Taking daily supplementation of vitamin C, E, selenium and zinc help in treatment of minor issues like stress and fatigue. These revitalize the system and help in improving functioning of the sex organs.
Drinking teas and decoction made of panax ginseng, siberian ginseng and astralagus helps. Astralagus improves sperm motility. Ginseng helps in increasing sperm count and testosterone levels.
