Make Lip Balms at Home

Apart from skin and hair, the weather has it’s effect on lips too. In fact, the skin of the lips is extremely sensitive and very easily suffers from discoloration, chapping and darkening.

Cheap cosmetic products are yet another cause of lip troubles. Here are some simple home made lip balms that can be used any time of the day to heal and nourish. Those preparations which carry glycerin must not be applied during day time. The light of sun actually blackens lips carrying glycerin.

Take a well washed small container with a tight lid. Let it air dried and keep aside. Use it to store the lip balm. Put 2 tbsp of virgin olive oil, one and a half tbsp of beeswax, about half ingredients of a vitamin E capsule and I tbsp of lemon juice (sieved). Mix them well.

In case you have chapped lips and lemon juice will hurt, you may use cocoa butter instead.

Using of lemon provides lighter coloration to the lips, making them natural pink. Home made chocolate lip balm is possible. Chocolate is a rich antioxidant substance and would provide healing and moisturizing to the lips.

Take 2 tbsp of virgin olive oil, 1 ½ tbsp of beeswax and vitamin E capsule contents. Mix these ingredients well. Take 5 chocolate chips (use a chocolate which carries more than 70 % of cocoa solids) and grind tem in pestle mortar. If heat has already melted it then whip into the prepared mixture. Store in refrigerator.

This balm is especially effective in nights. One of the simplest lip balms is missing 1 tbsp each of honey and glycerin with half tbsp of lemon juice. This simple mixture moisturizes lips thickly. This must be used in nights only. Fresh carrot juice can be directly applied to lips, kept for 2 minutes and then washed off. Red rose petals can be grinded and applied directly on lips. Then, wash after 5 minutes.
