Low Back Pain

Lumbar spondylosis is a condition in which the bones of the vertebrate get affected. The vertebrae loose the softness and shape. Due to this the spinal cord looses its flexibility because the vertebrate bone gives support to the spine so as to stand.

The space between the disc in lumbar spines becomes narrow. So more pressure is put on the nerves in that area, thereby causing tingling, pain and numbness.

Causes of Low Back Pain

People above the age of 40 are more to develop this problem. As the lumbar region holds most of the body weight, being overweight can also be one of the causes for lumbar spondylosis. Sitting continuously for long time in a single position can also affect the lumbar spine. Family history is one of the basic causes and any injury in lumbar region can lead to lumbar spondylosis.

Symptoms

Lumbar spondylosis is mainly characterized by tingling sensation in the legs. Morning stiffness is the most common problem of lumbar spondylosis. The buttocks and lower back are mostly affected with pain and it becomes difficult to bend and lift something heavy. This can also lead to bone spurs and overgrowth of the bone in that region.

Diagnosis

Doctors would come to know about the disease by the symptoms told by the patient. Some blood tests, X-ray and if needed CT scan and MRI may be done to know the depth of the disease.

Treatment

Each patient is treated differently. At initial stage, certain lifestyle changes are to be carried out. The doctor would prescribe some medicines also. Physiotherapy proves good to give some relief. If the condition becomes worse, operation is done and some extra support is joined with the spine.

Some extra care should be taken to avoid difficult situations. One should take rest and allow the muscles to relax. Do not overburden your mind and body and lie down in relaxed manner. You can use a hot bottle or some heat therapy in the lumbar area as heat causes the veins and capillaries to dilate and the blood flow improves thereby reducing the pain.

Massage is another good option as it relieves the tension developed in the veins and thus improves the blood flow. If you are overweight do something to reduce your weight. Improve your sitting posture and never sit in one position for long.
