Lice In Head!
August 4, 2009
Head lice grow commonly in school going children and can get transferred from one head to the other very easily. An itchy head, a live lice moving in hair and tiny white eggs of lice sticking to the sides of hair are characteristic signs of lice infestation.
Use of medicated shampoo is the most practiced treatment for lice but if the colonization persists, one must consult a health care expert. Before that do try these trusted home remedies.
Massage hair with a lot of warm mustard seed oil. It is said that the lice become “blind” on oiling and hence it is easier to brush them off from the hair using a wide toothed comb.
Another remedy is by using olive oil. Massage the hair with the oil and wrap them with plastic bag. Cover the hair completely not to leave any breathing space. Next morning, wash hair with tea tree oil based shampoo and comb out dead lice. You must repeat this remedy after every seven days for one month.
An effective home remedy to remove lice is by using vinegar. Vinegar has acidic properties. It can retard growth of lice and hence is helpful in lice management. When used with undiluted lemon juice and garlic paste the remedy can permanently treat problem of lice.
Take 2 tbsp of fresh lemon juice, 1 tbsp of garlic paste and 4 tbsp of vinegar. Mix them well and apply to the scalp. Let it work for 2-3 hours and wash off with fresh water. This is a strong remedy and should be used only once in a month.
Lemon juice can be used alone if lice problem is less severe. Lemon juice will also help in treating dandruff trouble. If lice have completely invaded the scalp there will be no dandruff.
Things to Remember
Always keep your hair clean. If you can not manage long hair then get them regularly cut. Keep away from people who have lice. Those who have lice in their head must use a separate towel, comb, etc so that it does not spread to others.
If you come in contact with dirt and dust often then wash your hair with antibacterial shampoos containing tea tree oil or lemon extract.
